The guardian program is our way of advancing our breeding program while prioritizing our dogs' happiness and need for love and attention. Though we'd love to keep all our dogs, we understand that they thrive with more one-on-one care than we can provide.
As a guardian home, you become the forever home for one of our breeding dogs while they're in our program. Upon retirement (and after being spayed/neutered at our expense), full ownership transfers to the guardian family, and they become the lifelong companions of the dog.
Becoming a Guardian Home grants you the opportunity to have one of our puppies or young adults as a cherished family pet while they remain a part of our program, all without any initial costs to you.
Through this program, we ensure that our dogs experience the best possible lives in loving, attentive homes where they receive abundant one-on-one care and attention.
To become a Guardian Home for our program, certain criteria need to be met:
1. Teach basic commands such as sit, stay, lay-down, “no,” quiet, leave it, and leash manners using positive reinforcement methods.
2. Potty train and crate train the dog by 9 months of age if not already accomplished.
3. Keep the dog as an indoor family pet and never allow them to live outdoors.
4. Avoid exposing the dog to areas frequented by other dogs (dog parks, pet stores, etc.) until fully vaccinated (around 16 weeks).
5. Socialize the dog with other dogs and people.
6. Provide sufficient exercise and mental stimulation.
7. Be available to bring the dog to and from the breeder within 24-36 hours' notice.
8. Maintain effective communication, cooperation, and coordination with the breeder.
9. Inform the breeder in case of any significant illness or accidents involving the dog.
10. Cannot participate as a guardian home for another breeder with the same breeds while involved in our program.
11. While a fenced yard is preferred, it's not mandatory.
12. Reside within 85 miles of our home.
Adhering to these requirements ensures the well-being and proper development of the dog within our breeding program while offering them a loving home environment.
As a Guardian Home, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day care of the dog, covering regular expenses such as food, treats, toys, and general veterinary care unrelated to breeding. This includes ensuring the dog receives routine vaccinations, flea and tick medications, and heartworm preventatives at your own cost.
Additionally, grooming expenses are the responsibility of the guardian, unless they choose to handle grooming personally.
These responsibilities aim to ensure the well-being and overall health of the dog while they are under your care within our program.
As part of our Guardian Home program, we commit to:
1. Providing the guardian family with a healthy dog at no initial cost
2. Covering expenses related to health testing.
3. Bearing all breeding-related costs, such as progesterone testing, semen collection, etc.
4. Offering guidance to the guardian family on recognizing a heat cycle and caring for a pregnant dog if they're unfamiliar with the process.
5. Covering the cost of spaying/neutering upon the dog's retirement from the breeding program.
7. Offering continuous lifetime support for the dog and the guardian family.
8. Always being prepared to take the dog back if, for any reason, the guardian family is no longer able to care for them.
These commitments aim to create a mutually beneficial relationship wherein the dog receives exceptional care within a loving home while contributing to our breeding program's success.
If you're interested in becoming a guardian home please fill out this application with as much detail as possible and if you're looking for a male or female.
